Delphix Engine Console Reports "audit: backlog limit exceeded" (KBA8443)

KBA

KBA# 8443

Issue

The Delphix engine is unresponsive on the network.  When connecting to the virtual machine console, messages are seen from audit stating backlog limit exceeded, as in the example below.  The initial numbers on each line are a timestamp (seconds since boot) so these will differ.  The messages from audit may be interspersed with other messages.

Resolution

This message indicates that the audit daemon of the Delphix operating system has been unable to write audit records to disk, resulting in the buffer filling up.  This is likely caused by a storage fault that is affecting the root filesystem of the Delphix engine, resulting in a backlog of I/O that cannot be processed.

Check for faults affecting the storage that has been assigned to the Delphix engine virtual machine.  Both the operating system disk and the data disks may be impacted if they are allocated from the same storage system.

Once any underlying storage problems have been addressed, the Delphix engine will need to be rebooted in order to restore access.

Please contact Delphix Support if further assistance is needed with troubleshooting this error.
