Software Product Line Policies (KBA1003)
Updated Release Structure effective 2023
As of 2023, Delphix has changed the product numbering scheme and the release cadence of Continuous Data and Continuous Compliance. We have moved to an incrementing numbering scheme, released monthly.
We’re making this change as we no longer have the concept of a major release. We now just have releases, all of which go through the same series of rigorous testing. Releases may contain minor feature updates, bug fixes or both. As before, the API is versioned separately and you are free to use the API version of choice to maintain compatibility with existing integrations. With each release, we maintain upward compatibility. We will continue to document and announce when there are major new features. Our existing deprecation and end-of-life policies remain unchanged.
The new versioning and release model will not change the support periods—releases will remain in primary support for 18 months, followed by extended support for a further 18 months. We look forward to bringing new functionality to you at an accelerated pace.
Product Release and Upgrades
-
Delphix Continuous Data and Continuous Compliance are released approximately every month. Data Control Tower is released approximately every six weeks. Other products, including connectors, integrations and other offerings may be released on different cadences.
-
The availability, timing, and delivery of new bug fixes is at the sole discretion of Delphix. New bug fixes will primarily be delivered in subsequent releases.
-
Delphix supports direct upgrades from Software released in the last 12 months. If a target release is more than 12 months out of date, then multiple upgrades will be necessary.
-
Delphix releases Software in two states: beta and general availability (GA). This is not for every release, but rather constrained to specific releases.
-
Beta Release
-
All feature development and basic testing is done; however, the Software is not yet fully regression tested.
-
The Software is available to customers who have agreed to participate in Delphix’s beta testing program.
-
Limited support is available from the Delphix Product Management and Engineering teams.
-
Software is not intended for use in production.
-
-
General Availability Release
-
The release has been through extended testing by Delphix and has had extensive exposure to a broad set of customer situations.
-
The release is intended for general deployments.
-
The release is fully supported.
-
The Software is downloadable by any Delphix customer under paid license term to use the Software.
-
Emails are sent to customers announcing the release.
-
Knowledge base articles are updated.
-
-
Support Terms
-
“Primary Support” means Delphix will accept inquiries and make commercially reasonable efforts to resolve customer-reported issues. When and if code changes are required, updates will be delivered in scheduled releases.
-
A Release will be in Primary Support for eighteen (18) months from the date of the GA (generally available) release. A Release will enter “Extended Support” for up to eighteen (18) months after the Primary Support period has lapsed.
-
“Extended Support” means Delphix will accept support inquiries for versions of the Software beyond the Primary Support period. Remediation requiring any product changes, including any new bug fixes, will require upgrading to a release in Primary Support. Inquiries will not lead to root cause analysis unless related to a known and documented issue relating to the Software.
-
“Legacy Support” means Delphix will accept support inquiries for versions of the Software beyond the Extended Support period. Remediation requiring any product changes, including any new bug fixes, will require upgrading to a release in Primary Support. Inquiries will not lead to root cause analysis unless related to a known and documented issue relating to the Software. Legacy Support provides customers with the following:
-
Customers can log support calls with Delphix
-
Commercially reasonable efforts will be provided by the Support organization
-
Documentation will continue to be available
-
Download site access will continue to be available
-
No new Software updates, patches or hotfixes will be provided
-
No new security patches will be provided to the version of the Software that is in use by Customer
-
No new platform certifications
-
If a security update is available for one of the components that Delphix Engine ships with, and a customer is interested in receiving that update, then the customer will need to upgrade to the latest version of the Delphix Engine
-
-
Legacy Support is only available for up to 12 months after the end of Extended Support. This option is only available to customers who purchased Platinum Support and PlatinumPlus Support during the License Term. Legacy Support is an additional-cost feature that can be used to augment Platinum and PlatinumPlus Support Services. It is not available with Standard Support Services. The Legacy Support feature is only available as a single 12-month extension to Extended Support.
-
Delphix can make current and historical versions of Delphix Software available for download through the end of the Extended Support period.
-
Delphix will maintain documentation and a technical knowledge base for the currently supported releases of the Software.
End of Support
-
If Delphix moves the entire Software to End of Support Life (EOSL), the Software will be supported for 1 year from the final version of the Software, after which point it will move to Extended Support.
-
Delphix may discontinue a product or feature. After the announcement of Delphix’s intention, Primary Support will continue for at least 1 year from the last release date of the discontinued product or feature, followed by the normal 18 months of Extended Support.
Product Configurations
Occasionally the Delphix Technical Services team will implement custom code leveraging the Software’s standard public interfaces. These configurations (including, but not limited to, pre- and post-hook scripts, API scripting, and integrations with monitoring/compliance tools) are within our customers’ or their third-party designees’ responsibilities for on-going maintenance. These types of customizations are generally for use with the version of the Software with which the configurations were implemented and are not supported by our Customer Support team. Please see Scope of Delphix Customer Support. When new versions are provided, our customers or their designees must determine if there is an impact to these configurations through their normal configuration management and regression testing processes. An additional services engagement will be required to validate custom configuration with new versions of the Software.
Third Party Platform Support
Delphix interoperates with a broad range of Third-Party Software. Delphix depends on a platform or execution environment to run, such as a hypervisor, cloud, or container management software. Supported run-time environments are documented on Delphix’s official Support Matrix.
Delphix products can also connect to and operate on a number of qualified Third-Party data sources, e.g. including database management software, etc. Support of this interoperability (see below definition of Support) is crucial:
-
“Support” means Delphix will create and maintain the ability to connect to and operate on data in the Third-Party Software. Support is limited to data platforms, Operating System versions, and versions of Third-Party Software as qualified on Delphix’s official Support Matrix. Delphix will address issues related to Third-Party Software and collaborate with Third-Party Software vendors if issues are based in such Third-Party Software.
-
Delphix will use commercially reasonable efforts to analyze new versions of Third-Party Software upon their general release. Delphix will work with its customer base to determine whether adoption will reach a critical mass and to determine an appropriate release vehicle to include support for such versions.
-
New releases of Delphix software will discontinue to support versions of Third-Party Software for which third-party vendors have removed general mainline support or as other business reasons dictate.
-
As support for Third-Party Software changes, Delphix will update our release notes, documentation, and send our customers emails announcing the changes.
Product Extensions Support
Delphix Products include extensibility interfaces that may be leveraged by customers, third-party partners, or Delphix Services. Please refer to Delphix Extensibility Support for specific terms related to support of these interfaces and related extensions.
Ecosystem-Specific Support Policies
Delphix provides various ecosystem offerings to connect your data sources, scale DevOps automation, and implement complex application solutions with the Delphix Platform. Ecosystem offerings are available in two product categories:
-
“Integrations” incorporate the Delphix Platform into DevOps toolchains to supercharge pipelines. These offerings leverage the third-party tool's native framework to incorporate seamlessly into an application team's workflow.
-
“Solutions” are product packages and best practices to implement TDM in specific application frameworks, such as Salesforce and SAP. These offerings contain multiple components, such as Connectors, Accelerators, and Templates, to offer a streamlined implementation experience.
Ecosystem offerings have the following support policy types:
-
“Delphix” ecosystem product offerings are included in enterprise support service plans. However, if Delphix determines that the root cause of a problem is due to the third-party software, the support ticket will be closed, we will provide our findings, and you will be directed to resolve the issue directly with that third-party provider.
-
“Community” offerings follow the Delphix Open Source Community Guidelines. If you submit a support ticket regarding a community integration, it will be immediately closed with a redirection to the community guidelines and its open-source forum.
-
“Partner” offerings are maintained by another company in our partner ecosystem. If you submit a support ticket regarding a partner integration, it will be immediately closed with a redirection to that partner’s support statement.
Please consult the offerings documentation page for additional specifics.
