How to handle "Relay access denied" errors


A fault with the following description:

Title: Failed to send a message
Details: Error: 454 4.7.1 <>: Relay access denied
User Action: Check the relevant system settings based on the description.


This fault is in response to a received SMTP server error; it be caused by improper SMTP settings, likely invalid credentials. SMTP settings are utilized when configuring email alerts. You can verify SMTP settings by performing the following steps:

  1. Log into the Delphix Engine Server Setup page, either as the sysadmin account or with another user with system administrator privileges. 
  2. Navigate to the "Serviceability" section and click "Modify".
  3. Verify the provided information and change details if needed.
  4. Click "Test" to verify the provided settings are valid.
  5. Click "OK" to save changes.

If the changes to credentials does not resolve the issue, the administrator for SMTP server should be engaged for further diagnosis, to understand why the server is rejecting the Delphix Engine's attempt to send email alert.
