Storage Use Discrepancy Between Target and Source When Replicating From On-Premises Delphix Engine to Azure or Google Cloud Platform (KBA5780)

Issue

When replicating datasets from an on-premises Delphix Engine (running on VMware ESX/ESXi) to a Delphix Engine running in Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), the replica datasets on the target Delphix Engine may consume more storage than the corresponding datasets on the on-premises source Delphix Engine.

Resolution

The additional space usage by datasets in Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform is normal. The additional space usage is due to the larger block size (physical sector size) for the underlying storage on those platforms. This affects the amount of space used by files as well as by file system metadata.

Note that this difference in space usage will apply whenever replicating between platforms with different physical sector sizes.

At the time of this article publish, the physical sector sizes are not illustrated in the Delphix Admin or System Setup interfaces.
