Cannot Open Database Requested By the Login (KBA5491)

Issue

While linking a SQL Server dSource, you may receive the following error:

Failed to connect to source database "MyDataBase" over JDBC.

This error may occur even if the earlier Validate Credentials step of the Add dSource wizard succeeds.

Resolution

As required by the documentation, Overview of Requirements for SQL Server Environments, verify that the database user being used is a member of the Public role for that database, e.g., MyDataBase.

This can be verified by checking the User Mappings for the SQL Server login via SQL Server Management Studio. The login you need to check will be displayed in the Summary screen of the Add dSource wizard (circled in the screenshot above).

JDBC calls made to the SQL Server instance will directly reference the database name during login. Linking the database will fail if this database user mapping is not configured.
