Issue

A dSource records changes to a source database using a combination of SnapSync and LogSync.

  • SnapSync captures the data files of the  source database, resulting in a dSource snapshot.
  • LogSync collects transaction logs to record any changes to the data files that occur during a SnapSync job or between SnapSync jobs, providing point-in-time provisioning capability.

If a source database is actively used and generating a high number of transaction logs (i.e. redo in Oracle, translogs in MSSQL, etc), then correspondingly, the LogSync service could require a great deal of storage within the Delphix engine to store the log data.

If the ability to provision a VDB to a point in time between snapshots is not required, LogSync can be disabled under the Configuration > Data Management page of the VDB in the admin UI, as shown below for an Oracle VDB, to reduce dSource storage space requirements.

Note

Note:

Disabling LogSync option will still allow VDB provisioning/refresh from snapshots but will not allow for point-in-time provisioning between Snapshots.
